Graceful Gabby is excited about her new room, but she’s disappointed that everything in her new room is not “pinky” perfect. Come along with Graceful Gabby as she learns about the Fruit of the Spirit. With the help of her Grand Ma-Ma, Graceful Gabby learns to recognize and share the special gift of love with others and to appreciate the love of family.
Is this not one of the most adorable book covers you’ve ever seen? I absolutely love a great children’s book, and this one is not only adorable, but has such a beautiful and powerful message for young girls. I had the pleasure of meeting the wonderful author Crystal Marable at a recent retreat for moms. I had heard so many great things about her book that I asked her to send me a copy for review. I was so excited when I received it and so were my girls! We all absolutely loved the book, so I wanted to find out more about the inspiration from Crystal, and offer it as a gift to one lucky reader.
What does Graceful Girlz mean?
Crystal: Graceful Girlz is a faith based community supporting the spiritual growth and development of African American girls worldwide. It’s about teaching our girls that not only are they beautiful in their diverse shades of brown skin but that their true mark of beauty and development of a healthy self esteem is established by their character, integrity and positive life choices.
What inspired you to start the Graceful Girlz movement and who is this message for?
Crystal: I was that little girl who struggled with low self esteem and not quite knowing what my purpose was in life or that I even had a purpose. I didn’t realize that I possessed my own unique gifts and talents within me that I could offer the world and truly make a difference in the lives of others. As I grew older and experienced life, I found that everything I ever needed was already inside of me. So, this message is for all of the girls and young women who struggle daily with their outer appearance, who struggle with trying to fit in, who struggle with question “who am I?”…Begin today to see the beauty and value of the gifts you possess on the inside and how these gifts will not only uplift and empower your own life, but also the lives of others.
What can you share about what’s in store for Graceful Gabby?
Crystal: There are so many wonderful adventures in store for Graceful Gabby. My hope is that Gabby will continue to connect with our girls while offering inspiration and empowerment through each book in the series. Gabby will continue her journey with a story teaching on each Fruit of the Spirit in way that is fun, colorful and inspiring.
Are there any upcoming events or book signings to introduce Graceful Girlz or Graceful Gabby?
Crystal: Graceful Gabby will be at the Radisson Hotel Largo on Saturday December 14, 2014 from 12-6pm for a Vendor Holiday showcase in Upper, Marlboro Md. Graceful Gabby will also be at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum in Baltimore Md. on March 8, 2014 for children’s story time. Girls will make princess crowns and participate in a Graceful Gabby tea party. In addition, we will be participating in the Tots-To-Teens Expo on April 19, 2014. This is a free event to the public at the Washington Convention Center. There will be story times and interactive booths. People can visit my website www.gracefulgirlz.com to sign up for event updates. We can also be found on Twitter and Facebook for more info.
Thank you Crystal for sharing your gift of Graceful Gabby with all of us. I was also that little girl who struggled with low self-esteem and have been teaching my daughters the opposite.
