4 Ways Mothers Can Celebrate Valentine’s Day For Themselves

In a real world, mothers don’t celebrate themselves quite often.  Once a child is born, it is a mother’s innate ability to deeply nurture and provide unconditionally for her family. She abides by this ritual daily without giving a second thought to her own personal wants or needs. I know this to be true because I am that mother just like you.

As a mother of three, I rise at 5 am and hardly ever sleep before 12 am.  Preparing lunches, dropping off and picking up from school. Oh did I mention working in between, where I dance to someone else’s beat for 8 hours.  Then to get home and cook dinner, check homework and listen to the chronicles of elementary, middle and high school. I think we have concluded there is no “me” time in any of these equations.

In the midst of many conclusions I make daily, I certainly have concluded that I am not alone in this daily journey to fill everyone’s life with happiness…. But my conclusions always end with… What about me?

So after talking to a few of my girlfriends, I decided to come up with 4 ways that we as mothers can celebrate ourselves.  With Valentine’s Day on the horizon, what better time to celebrate us.  If you are that mother that juggles home , work and anything else that comes your way, keep reading for these 4 ways mothers can celebrate themselves (that would be you, and only you) this Valentine’s Day.  The bonus this year is Valentine’s Day falls on a Sunday… Which is hopefully one of your less hectic days.

1.  Enjoy a Massage

Hot Stone or Deep Tissue?

Ok how many of us have that membership to massage envy and never go because life grabs you by the hair and won’t let go? Both of my hands are raised.   Well today is your day.  Instead of a one hour massage  celebrate yourself and opt for two hours of your favorite massage.  Massages come with benefits that allow us to relax muscles, soothe headaches and just plain and simple allow us to R E L A X without hearing someone calling “mommy.”

2. Enjoy a Movie

Drama or Comedy?

When is the last time you walked into a movie theater without the kids? I know my trips to the theater are filled with spilled popcorn and trips to the bathroom as soon as you get to the best part of the movie. Well make today that day.  Celebrate yourself by choosing  a movie that you have been longing to see.  Grab your popcorn and a great seat and enjoy a great uninterrupted movie of your choice.

3. Enjoy a great book with coffee

Self-Help or Love Stories coupled with Starbucks?

I love, love, love the bookstore, but all of my trips are to the children’s section.  Don’t get me wrong, as an Educator for 14 years, children’s books have been my favorite.  As I walk to the register, I always want to stop in a few other sections to see what might be there for me but that never seems to happen. Well what a fantastic way to celebrate yourself by grabbing yourself a new book and stopping off at Starbucks …alone… To read for a few hours.  In a perfect world, Starbucks would be strategically placed in every Barnes and Nobles.

4. Enjoy treating yourself to a shopping day

Underwear or Shoes?

Two of my guilty pleasures that I never really focus on anymore.  I used to feel so delighted and sensual by a matching underwear set and a great pair of heels…. But now my priorities have changed.  But does that mean that every once in a while I cannot treat myself to something special “just because?” Prepare to celebrate yourself in a big way. Replace all those worn mommy panties for some cute chick panties or splurge on those heels that are going to be hot in the Spring.

As moms, we work nonstop to show love to everyone else. Let’s make a pact to choose one way above to celebrate all that we do on this Valentine’s Day as a mom.  After all Valentine’s Day is the ” Love” holiday.  Show how much you love yourself by celebrating the MOM in you💕

Comment below and let me know: how do you plan to show yourself some love this Valentine’s Day?

    Hi Tomika,

Thanks so much for this reminder! Aside from the massage, grabbing a book and a coffee at Starbucks (grande white mocha, extra hot, soy, WITH whip – yaay!) is my favorite way to pamper myself. Thankfully, my favorite Starbucks is located within walking distance of a Barnes & Noble – and the BN also has a Starbucks cafe inside. WOOT! #winning

Awesome article! Itis so true that we moms sometimes lose ourselves in our families. So thank you for your recommendations as I plan to share this with a certain significant other and subtly request the credit card. Thanks and be sure to take your own advice.

Awesome Tomika! As a single mom I can honestly say I am one that will get lost in doing for everyone else and neglect my own needs. Had the massage envy membership and always had to get reminder calls to use it, lol. Your recommendations are on point and very much needed!!!

I could get with every last one of these ideas! I know that a massage is long over due and just imagining sitting alone reading a book for hours sounds like a fairy tale, lol. I definitely plan on doing one of them for sure!! Great read 🙂

I’m not a mother but I have a unused Massage Envy gift card sitting in my wallet as we speak. I think many women both with children and without spend their time nurturing and caring for others without thought to themselves. This is a reminder for me thank you
