I don’t know about you, but I don’t watch a whole lot of TV, mainly because as of late, most of it is reality trash. The shows that I can comfortably sit down and watch on primetime with my kids are few and far between. I have to be honest that when I first heard about “Black-ish”, I was not intrigued with the name. I didn’t understand what it was until I started hearing the buzz about it. So then I did my research and have to admit, that when I saw the preview, I agreed that it was “laugh out loud” funny. Black-ish premiers tonight and this is one show that I’ll tune into with the whole family.
Tonight, Tracee Ellis Ross returns to our homes and hearts opposite Anthony Anderson and Laurence Fishburne in the new ABC comedy Black-ish. Black-ish takes a fun yet bold look at one man’s determination to establish a sense of cultural identity for his family.
Andre ‘Dre’ Johnson (Anthony Anderson) has a great job, a beautiful wife, Rainbow (Tracee Ellis Ross), four kids, and a colonial home in the ‘burbs. But has success brought too much assimilation for this black family? With a little help from his dad (Laurence Fishburne), Dre sets out to establish a sense of cultural identity for his family that honors their past while embracing the future. Unlike the Cosby Show, black-ish explores how a well-to-do African-American family in a predominately White neighborhood deals with maintaining their Black cultural identity while also “assimilating” into the culture of their neighbors.
“Black-ish” stars Anthony Anderson as Dre, Tracee Ellis Ross as Rainbow, Yara Shahidi as Zoey, Marcus Scribner as Andre Jr., Miles Brown as Jack, Marsai Martin as Diane and Laurence Fishburne as Pops.“Black-ish” was written by Kenya Barris, who also serves as executive producer. Executive producers are Larry Wilmore, Anthony Anderson, Laurence Fishburne, Helen Sugland, Tom Russo, Brian Dobbins, Peter Principato, Paul Young and James Griffiths, who directed the pilot. “Black-ish” is produced by ABC Studios.
Black-ish premiers tonight on ABC, September 24 at 9:30pm
