Take Charge & FLY: Top 10 Tips to Reignite, Rediscover & Reconnect With Yourself – Tip #1

Hopefully, over the last couple of weeks, you’ve been able to utilize and connect with some of these tips to help you reignite, rediscover & reconnect with yourself.

And my final tip in this countdown is…

mom guilt epidemicTip #1: Get.Over.The.Mom.Guilt.

I know, I know this is really hard to do for a lot of us moms. In fact, the threat of this epidemic continues to try to invade my space on a regular basis. BUT I have made the conscious decision that when I have my kids’ best interest at heart, I’m not allowed to feel guilty. I’m a better mom, a happier mom when I take time to recharge and reconnect with myself.

Two nights ago, I hosted a live call to talk about “The Truth About Mom Guilt and How to Overcome it”. If you missed the call, I will share a few of the highlights here.

But in order to “get over the mom guilt”, we need to understand the basis of it, why we feel it and where it comes from. And here are just a few reasons why mom guilt may occur. It occurs when:

  • You have multiple children and have to figure out how to divide your time/attention (especially with a new baby).
  • When you let your child watch TV so you can get the dishes done or work on an important project
  • When you have to stop at Chick Fil A on the way home from work because you’re just too exhausted to cook
  • When you can’t make your child’s field trip or recital because you have a very important client meeting

As the quote in the picture states, “Mom guilt is an epidemic that is taking over the world. It needs to stop. We as moms need to get over feeling guilty of doing what’s in the best interest of our children. Feel GOOD not GUILTY!” One way to do this is to remind yourself that you are doing what is in the best interest of your kids. When you take time to take care of yourself, to reconnect with yourself, you’re becoming a better mother. When you learn to set boundaries, put yourself back on your calendar or decide you’re more important than leftovers, it means you’re pouring love into yourself so you can then pour that back into your family. So why should you feel guilty about that?

What are some things that keep mom guilt nagging at you? What one step can you take to fight the guilt and applaud yourself when you take time to recharge?

If you want more in depth tips on how you can get over the mom guilt, then I invite you to join me for my workshop on July 13th. Register TODAY by clicking on the image below.

Mom guilt is something I’ve seen again and again. This has always scared me as I have not started my family yet. The one tip that seems to run amongst all mothers is to remember to make time for yourself. I totally agree, if you have nothing extra to give to your family how can you give? If you take the time out for yourself to regroup and regenerate your mind and spirit, there will be plenty to share! Thanks for this series Christine. I’m taking notes!

Hi Arelis! Thanks so much for sharing! I truly haven’t met any mom that has never dealth with some degree of mom guilt. And the demands of society doesn’t help either. But if you’re not used to thinking/caring about yourself, then it’s only going to be worse once you become a mom. So that’s great that you are being proactive and mindful of this even before you have kids 🙂
