Motivational Monday: Focus on What You CAN Do

So often we spin our wheels and stress ourselves out about everything that can go wrong in any given situation, or lose hope in accomplishing our goals because we’re so focused on what we don’t have (skills or physical needs) in order to get something done. What I’ve learned is that when you focus on what you can do, it alleviates a lot of stress.

As a wife, mother of three, homeschooler and entrepreneur, there is a lot that needs to get done in any given day. I won’t lie and say I don’t get overwhelmed at times, but I’ve learned to manage my overwhelm. I know my strengths and what I’m capable of doing and what I’m not. I have no shame in asking for help when I need it. And anytime I’m presented with a challenge, I remember one of my favorite quotes:

“Don’t let what you cannot do, interfere with that you can do.”

So regardless of what situation you’re facing that might be overwhelming, how can you break it down and take care of the things that you know you can do? How can you delegate or get someone else to help with the things that you’re either not able to do or are out of your skillset? And sometimes, it’s a matter of asking for help not because you can’t do it but because your time can be  better spent doing other things. For example, I just got back from speaking at Disney for the Niche Parent Conference. I could’ve put together a powerpoint myself and spent a couple of weeks or get someone to do it for me in less than a couple of days. I chose the latter. Less stress. Less overwhelm. Easy choice.

What things can you focus on today that you know you can do? And what things can you delegate to help move you closer to your goals?
