Why Love and Discipline Will Get You in Formation

Beyonce Formation Discipline

Beyonce premiering her visual album Lemonade on HBO on Saturday and shortly thereafter, her 6th studio album, can easily make a woman feel like she needs to step up her game. As a mother and wife, she has enough discipline to still find time to devote to her creative outlet.

Understanding that Queen Bey has a team behind her, it’s still admirable to see all that she comes up with. There’s a meme that’s floated around social media for some time that says we have the same 24 hours in a day that Bey has, and as I sit here knowing the laundry list of things that I probably should be doing, although I just want to veg out, I want to know what the secret sauce behind her grind is.

Beyonce, 24 hours, Formation, Discipline

Loving what you do kinda goes without saying, but a conversation with a wedding blogger revealed to me that as much as she loves weddings, there are days when she doesn’t want look at another wedding-anything.

So what carries you through on those days? I’m gonna have to say discipline. Other than the initial love for what you do, business has nothing to do with feelings. (Not talking about hunches and gut feelings). What I mean is, similar to how love in a marriage is a decision, whether you feel like loving hubby today isn’t part of the equation. You choose to love him. Whether or not I feel like being up until 2am a week in a row, isn’t part of the equation. It’s a decision that’s part of my bigger decision to be an entrepreneur. So I choose to be disciplined and stay up to get stuff done.

You may question your decisions from time to time (hopefully not to marry hubs), especially when things aren’t going the way you pictured or hoped. In those moments, I want you to have either a picture or a vision board that will remind you of the love you have towards your craft, and hopefully, motivate you to stay disciplined to keep grinding and “get in formation.”

Wow! This was so on time. I sit here with tears in my eyes as I read this. Last night, I felt overwhelmed by the many things on my to-do list as my husband slept like a newborn babe. Thank you for reminding me to look at the big picture: this is so temporary. My vision is way bigger than the discomfort of hard work and perseverance. My hubby called this morning and offered to lessen my load by taking a few things off my plate. I’m grateful he sees the bigger picture.
